This list of the best restaurants where to eat in Lisbon for cheap, or value for money, will help you make the most of the most typical dishes of Portuguese food and also get to know some of its most famous and outstanding restaurants.

Although we know that it is difficult not to eat well in the capital of Portugal, thanks to the great quantity and quality of local and international restaurants, historic cafés and tascas, we believe it is important to choose the right restaurants to leave the city with the best taste in your mouth.
And of course, besides tasting all the delicious dishes, one of the best things to do in Lisbon that you can't miss is to have breakfast or an afternoon snack of the famous Pasteles de Belém, one of our favourite sweets in the world.

Based on the experience of our trip to this beautiful city, in which we wrote this guide to Lisbon, we leave you a list of the 10 restaurants where to eat cheaply and well in Lisbon, so you can fall in love with Portuguese gastronomy.

1. Ti Natércia

Ti Natércia is one of the best restaurants to eat in Lisbon and try the bacalao con nata (cod with cream), one of the most typical Portuguese recipes consisting of crumbled baked cod, onion, potatoes and béchamel sauce with liquid cream. The food here is plentiful and the product is of high quality, while the usual price is between 12 and 15 euros.
The restaurant is small and always full, so it is essential to make a reservation at least 3 days in advance if you don't want to get a resounding NO from the owner.

2. Pastelería o Pastéis de Belém

One of the best and most popular places to have breakfast in Lisbon is the Pastelería o Pastéis de Belém, where the famous Pastel de Belém originated.
Here they serve this sweet pastry with freshly baked crispy puff pastry dough and homemade cream filling for one euro a piece, which includes two tins for sprinkling with icing sugar and cinnamon.
As well as having two or three pastries for breakfast accompanied by a good coffee, it is well worth taking a stroll around this period pastry shop, full of tiles and with several rooms to sit in, as this is an unmissable visit in itself.
Remember that although there are several places in Lisbon where these sweets are reproduced to perfection, this is the only one that follows the secret recipe of the monks of the Jerónimos Monastery of 1837.

3. A Nossa Casa

A Nossa Casa, located in the Barrio Alto, is another of Lisbon' s best value for money restaurants. In this cosy place you will enjoy delicious dishes to share, mixing flavours of Portuguese and Brazilian food, for an average price of 20 euros per person, where well presented and appetizing fish dishes such as tuna, octopus largereiro style, cod, prawns and sardines, are one of its hallmarks.
This place fills up every night, so it is essential to book in advance if you don't want to wait a long time.

4. O Trigueirinho

O Trigueirinho is a small family-run place where you can eat cheaply in Lisbon and with fresh products such as cod, salmon, sea bream, octopus or tuna, usually accompanied by vegetables and boiled potatoes. We advise you to leave room for the homemade dessert, which is amazing!
As it is a small place and although the service is very fast, we recommend you make sure you get a table by booking.

  • Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 12h to 15h and from 20h to 22:30h, Saturdays only from 12h to 15h.

5. Tasca Mastai, one of the restaurants where to eat cheaply in Lisbon.

Tasca Mastai is another one of the best restaurants where to eat cheap and good in Lisbon, which is also located in the popular Bairro Alto, perfect for lunch or dinner after walking around it. In this small, atmospheric place you can try bruschettas, a cheese platter or some hearty tostas for between 5 and 10 euros.
It is also the perfect place to have a cocktail or a glass of wine while listening to good live music.

6. Augusto Lisboa

Located in the famous Alfama district, the Augusto Lisboa is an ideal place to eat in Lisbon, have breakfast or the increasingly fashionable brunch.
Despite having a short menu, this carefully decorated restaurant serves delicious dishes including cod crepes, salmon toasts, salads and cheeses at prices ranging from 5 to 15 euros.

7. Escadinhas Forest

Floresta Das Escadinhas is another of the places to eat cheaply in Lisbon where the quality of the food is outstanding for a price of about 10 euros per person, for which you can try good dishes of octopus, sardines, cod, squid, all grilled.
It is preferable to phone for reservations as the place gets full, although the service is fast and attentive.

8. Da Prata 52

Da Prata 52 is another of the most recommended restaurants in Lisbon, with a varied menu with vegetarian and vegan options and a price of 20 euros per person. It is advisable to order two tapas per person, which you can share, and accompany them with a good house wine. The staff is very attentive and will help you choose according to your tastes, although some of their most popular dishes are the octopus risotto and sardines in tempura.

9. Tasca do Jaime

Tasca do Jaime, more than a place to eat well in Lisbon, is the perfect place to have a bite to eat while listening to the most authentic Fado in the city. We went by chance, being in the Alfama neighbourhood, and we can confirm that it was one of the great experiences of our trip.
In this family-run place, the locals and even the owners sing, and if you don't want to eat, you can always listen to fado while having a drink at the bar.
Another good option to listen and understand Fado is to book this guided tour through the old Mouraria neighbourhood, which includes dinner and a Fado show.

10. Manteigaria

If you don't want to go to the Belém neighbourhood to try the Pasteles de Belém, in the Barrio Alto you will find the Manteigaria pastry shop, which has nothing to envy and is another of the most recommended places to eat in Lisbon.
As well as competing in flavour with the originals, here you can see how they are made and you have the option of eating the pastries freshly baked on the premises or taking them away in a box with a sachet of cinnamon.
